Professor of the Department of Mathematical Analysis in the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Málaga. Right now I am the Chairman of the department.  

I work  in Complex Variables. More specific research interests can be found here. 

I got my Ph. D. degree in Mathematics in  "The Department of Mathematics of Washington University" (St. Louis, Mo, U.S.A) in 1985. The title of my thesis was  "Means of univalent functions" and  my thesis advisor  Albert Baernstein II. I am also "Doctor en Ciencias (Sección Matemáticas) " for the University of Málaga.

I have directed two doctoral dissertations:
1. María Auxiliadora Márquez, Espacios de funciones analíticas caracterizados por propiedades de las derivadas de sus elementos, Universidad de Málaga, 2000.
2. José Ángel Peláez, Contribuciones a la teoría de ciertos espacios de funciones analíticas, Universidad de Málaga, 2004.

I am the main researcher or director of the following research projects or groups:

•  "Espacios de funciones analíticas y Teoría Geométrica de Funciones" (Analytic Function Spaces and Geometric Function Theory) financed by the "Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia, Spain" (key of the project: MTM2007-60854).
   

• Network "Variable Compleja, Espacios de Funciones y Operadores entre ellos" (Complex Variables, Function Spaces and Operators between them) financed by the "Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia, Spain" (keys: MTM2004-21420-E, MTM2006-26627-E and MTM2007-30904-E).
   

• "Grupo de Análisis Complejo, Espacios de Funciones y Teoría de Operadores de la Universidad de Málaga" (Group of  Complex Analysis, Function Spaces and Operator Theory of the University of Málaga) financed by the "Junta de Andalucía" (key of the group: FQM-210). 
   

• Proyecto de excelencia de la Junta de Andalucía "Análisis Complejo, Teoría de Operadores y Aplicaciones" (P06-FQM-01504).

Member of the European Networking Programme "Harmonic and Complex Analysis and Applications" HCAA of the European Science Foundation.

Member of  "Ingenio Mathematica (i-MATH)".

I am a member of  the Real Sociedad Matemática Española (RSME), the European Mathematical Society (EMS) and the  American Mathematical Society (AMS).

I act as a reviewer for Mathematical Reviews and for Zentralblatt MATH.

Teaching:

This academic year (2007-2008) I am teaching the course:

•  "Variable Compleja y Espacios Normados", asignatura troncal del 4º curso de la titulación de Matemáticas.

• Curso Análisis Complejo  dentro del "Máster Interuniversitario en Matemáticas". I am a member of the Scientific committee of the program.
