PatAdHoc
PatAdHoc is a software tool for generating mobility patterns in ad hoc networks with
obstacles in order to carry out more realistic simulations with the NS-2 network simulator.
The simulations are more realistic because PatAdHoc bears in mind the existing obstacles
within the scenario when it generates the patterns, defining the paths as the equidistant
points to their two closest obstacles vertices, meanwhile the patterns generated by the
application setdest of NS-2 follow arbitrary paths, since setdest uses the Random Waypoint
model.
For generating the patterns, it’s necessary to input the characteristics of the
scenario (dimensions and coordinates of the obstacles) and the parameters
of the simulation. The characteristics of the scenario can be input by hand or loaded
from a text file.
The tool returns a text file containing the generated patterns and allows to
visualize the simulation of these patterns. Besides, it allows to visualize the simulation
of patterns generated before.
In this section a demo of the tool PatAdHoc is shown. The basic steps to use it are:
Remark:This demo is a simplified version of the tool, since due to security problems associated to applets, the access to files of the local machine is denied. Because of that, the output of the demo is through the middle of a window instead of a text file, no scenarios can be loaded or saved from / to files and no saved patterns can be viewed either.
In this section, the tool PatAdHoc, user’s manual and an example of simulation scenario are available for downloading:
