Short biography

Francisco Javier Cañete Corripio is an Associate Professor in Departamento de Ingeniería de Comunicaciones (IC-UMA) since 2008. He received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Telecommunication Engineering in 1996 and 2004, respectively, from the University of Malaga. In 1996, he worked for the Instrument and Control Department at INITEC (Empresa Nacional de Ingeniería y Tecnología) in the design of power plants. In 1997, he worked for Alcatel España R-D Department in the design of Wireless Local Loop systems. In Nov. 1997, he joined IC-UMA as Assistant Professor and was Head of Department (2011-2016), Deputy Vice-Rector (2016-2023) and Vice-Rector of Studies (2023). From 2000 to 2001, he also collaborated with the Nokia System Competence Team in Malaga in the design of Radio Access Networks.

Awards:
  • IEEE Communications Society, 2014 TC-PLC Inter-disciplinary Research and Application Award for his contributions to PLC channel modeling.
  • Best paper award of IEEE International Symposium on Power Line Communications and its Applications (ISPLC), 2012, Beijing (China).
  • FUNDACION TELEFONICA Award (finalist) to the best Master Thesis in Networking and Telecommunication Services, 2011(with the role of supervisor).
  • Best paper award of XX Symposium Telecom I+D, Valladolid (España), 2010.
  • Juan López de Peñalver Award, Fundación General de la Universidad de Málaga, to the best research work in the field of engineering, received in 2007.
  • Doctorate Extraordinary Award to the best Ph.D. Thesis, ETSI Telecomunicacion, Universidad de Málaga, received in 2005.
